The war was clinical by all accounts,
but with hearts standing at attention,
everyone was ready to lay waste.
Time halted,
shivering in the air,
letting illusions recover
and chances unreel.
The immense charge was sounded,
the atmosphere shattered
and the right flank travelled
ceaselessly towards an advantage.
Elsewhere, more sudden
and agitated departures
(entirely plausible given
the expectations
and the outcome
and the preservation
of fragile souls).
Then came the end,
the world closing,
a triumphant ceremony
and such a personal finish.
